“Google quietly launched “AI Edge Eloquent,” an offline-first dictation app for iOS that cleans up your speech and removes filler words. The app uses local Gemini models to transform rambling speech into polished text, with options for “Key points,” “Formal,” “Short,” and “Long” formatting. It can import keywords from Gmail and work completely offline once the models download.
The offline capability is a very nice feature. Most dictation services require cloud processing, which creates latency and privacy concerns. Google’s local processing removes both friction points.
AI Edge Eloquent puts Google in direct competition with Wispr Flow (a personal fav), SuperWhisper, Willow, and other AI dictation startups that have built solid businesses around speech cleanup. These companies charge subscription fees for what Google now offers free. You’ve seen this movie before… independent developers prove the market, then big tech platforms absorb the functionality.”
