From “Trust the Whisper: How Answering Quiet Callings Inspires Extraordinary Stories of Ordinary Grace“ by Kathy Izard
How could this woman know exactly the words I needed to hear? I hadn’t planned to start speaking any more than I had planned to house the homeless, but it seemed that both were inevitable.
“The most important thing you need to do before you talk is pray,” she said confidently. “Before I speak, I go into a bathroom stall, and I pray that I say God’s words and not mine. Then, when I speak, sometimes I feel like my mouth is moving and I don’t even know what is coming out.”
My eyes filled with tears as she spoke. Ask her what she does.
Why that whisper? How could anyone have known? In all the planes taking off and landing all across the country, why would this woman, a speaker, be sitting next to me? She was exactly the person I needed to meet in exactly the right moment, and I had almost let her leave without asking what she does.
I had almost let my miracle go unnoticed and unrevealed.
Placing my hand on her arm, I tried to convey what an extraordinary meeting this was for me.
“Thank you. You have no idea how I needed to hear what you are saying,” I said. “I had this odd whisper I should ask you what you do, and I almost didn’t.”
She nodded, understanding as much as I did that we were meant to speak together. This was, without a doubt, a conversation I was destined to have, just like my meeting with Denver.
