I had no idea I had other choices as a Christian woman

From “Wired to Lead: Being the Leader the Church Didn’t Think You Could Be” by Suzanne Nadell

When I was in college in the 1990s, there were female Bible majors, but the number of female leaders teaching or administrating there were slim. I spent most of my college years seeing the girls around me scrambling to meet their husbands and graduate with their “MRS degrees” on top of their early childhood degrees. Was I failing at life and missing God’s plan for me if I didn’t graduate with a ring, get married, have multiple children right away, choose to stay home with them, and put that degree to work homeschooling my offspring?

Dozens of my friends and mentors have no doubt been called to that very life. I wasn’t and I definitely don’t believe that’s the only life God has in mind for his daughters. The problem, as I see it, was that I had no idea I had other choices as a Christian woman. I had real dreams that didn’t fit the schema perpetuated by many churches, and I am convinced that God planted those dreams in my heart.
